Varitek’s Lucky Number 13

Boston Red Sox team Captain Jason Varitek (C) had a very tough year in 2008.

He also suffered a very uncomfortable offseason this winter before signing his new deal to remain with his Red Sox possibly/hopefully until the end of the 2010 postseason – at least.

Jason turned 37 years old this Saturday April 11th, too young to retire.

Tek belted his second homerun of the regular 2009 season on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.  It was his   163rd  of his career with the Red Sox.

Jason has moved past Tony Conigliaro and Carlton Fisk into sole possession of   13th  place   in the Boston Red Sox All-Time list.

Jackie Jensen is next at number 12 with 170 runs.  Look out, Tek’s gonna catch ya!

Varitek has had a very good hitting season down in Fort Myers in 2009. Dave Magadan, Red Sox hitting coach said “we are very pleased with his progress and hard work, he is getting great results in the changes he has made.”

2009    Varitek, Jason      Avg.    .278         Slg  .722        OBP  .316
